Dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) based on 2MVA/6kV is proposed in the presentpaper, which is suitable to protect the sensitive load from voltage sag. Cascadedmultilevel construction is adopted by comparing several topologies. Principle analysesand simulations on sag detection; power storage; inverter designing and harmonicanalysis; loss account and filter design and protection scheme have been accomplished inthis paper. Importantly, the paper brings forward a new method --- on-line alternate charging,which is suitable to the cascaded multilevel DVR. The main advantages of the newmethod are charging in turn and discharging simultaneous, as a result, the course ofcharging cannot influence the load voltage. The simulations based on the soft ofMATLAB and EMTDC/PSCAD illustrate the feasibility of the new method.
