As the key of the electrified railway, the traction substation takes charge of the transformation and distribution, and has an importance to insure the security of the transportation. Compared with the rapid development of the automation of the second equipments in traction substation, the high voltage equipments automation is keeping low, which hampers the development of electrified railway. Therefore, it is necessary to proceed the automation rebuild.The high voltage equipments, include the traction transformer, switch, power capacitor, insulator, bushing, etc., produce the electrified railway normally running when they work regularly. So, it is important to detect the working condition of these high voltage equipments on-line and find the faults in time so as to avoid the malfunction of rail transportation.There already have some outcomes in studies of on-line monitoring of the running condition and the insulation condition of the high voltage equipments in power system. However, relevant study in electrified railway is taking its first step just now, and no molding product has come into use.This paper analyzes the running condition and fault condition of the high voltage equipments in substation, studies the relation between electrical parameters, physical parameters of each equipment and their running condition, proposes a simple and utilitarian project about the on-line monitoring system of the running condition of high voltage equipment. Furthermore, this paper simply expounds the modern digital signal processing technology, multi-sensors data merging technology, artificial intelligence and special system technology which are probably applied to the on-line monitoring system, and meanwhile the mode suitable for this system is proposed in this paper. For the limits of the technology and equipment in railway traction substation, this paper only gives the project designs of the on-line monitoring of the capacitor equipment, and explains the problem about anti-disturbance. At last, the field tests give a comparatively satisfactory conclusion.
