A general description of the development of Var compensation technique in recent years is given in this paper at first and the working principles and character of SVC for unbalanced load are briefly analyzed. After groundwork of deep analysis of theory of symmetrical components the digital compensating algorithm used in SVC is reduced. The design of the Fuzzy-PI controller is provided which aims to the nonlinear character of the system. According to the controlling circuit and the TCR circuit the mathematic model is established which can provide the academic gist for the design of PI controller. The two controlling methods are compared by simulating in SIMULINK environment of MATLAB software. The hardware control system based on industrial computer is designed, which includes sampling circuit, filter circuit, phase-compensated circuit and so on. The program of the system is compiled and a prototype is made and tested. The simulation and experimental results show that the SVC with Fuzzy-PI controller can compensate Var on real time for unbalanced load which has fleetly reaction, preferable controlling precision and robust character. In a word, the Fuzzy-PI controlling method can be used in the project which is reasonable and advanced. In the end of this paper, the corresponding real waves with Var compensation are provided.
