Structural topology optimization method is a newly developing method and has achieved remarkable success. For the problem of optimization design of automobile typical structure, at first, this paper summarizes and analyzes the development of Evolutionary Structural Optimization method.Next, in order to deal with the problem of stress concentration after removing inefficient material, a new optimization criterion based on stress and its sensitivity.is proposed, based on the idea that man-made.material is added around optimal structural cavities and boundaries. And checkerboard patterns are avoided by modifying stress sensitivity. Then, Bi-directional Evolutionary Structural Optimization (BESO) criteria and its arithmetic are given, combining ESO method with man-made material elements. And BESO method considering multiple constraints is proposed. Finally, a set of calculation formula of stress sensitivity numbers for bending plate is formulated, and optimization designs of reinforced structures have been completed, by setting up structural optimization model with two layers of elements.The evolutionary optimization procedures are implemented and some examples of automobile components are given. Results show that the methods proposed in this paper are correct and efficient, and they will become important design methods and tools of automobile structures and their components design, are of good engineering application.
