With the restriction of the more strict emission regulation of the internal combustionengine, it is imperious task for the engine manufacturers to produce the ICE which canmeet the regulation and realize the high efficiency combustion.The paper studied the optimization of the combustion system, so that the engine-outemissions can meet the EURO â…¡emission regulation. The experiment was conducted ona 230Ti turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine that was the regnant engine type ofthe Perkins Power Co, Ltd (Tianjin).Based on the analysis of the formation of the main deleterious engine-out emissionsincluding NOx, PM and HC and main technology to reduce those emissions, theoptimization design of the combustion system without the change of intake passage inthe cylinder head was made. With the measures of reducing the NOx and PM emissions,the engine can satisfy the EURO â…¡emissions regulation.The effects of the injection pressure of high pressure fuel pump, injection timing,pressure ratio of turbocharger, combustion chamber shape, injection hole number, holediameter and spray cone angel on engine emissions were studied. The engine emissionswere reduced very much and meet the requirement of the EURO â…¡by the means ofincreasing the fuel supply pressure of supply fuel pump combined with top clearanceplunger, reducing the initial stroke properly, delaying the fuel supply timing, using theinjector with small hole and large spray cone angle and the optimization of thecombustion chamber shape.Under the precondition of no change of intake passage, the 230Ti diesel enginerealizes the low emission combustion only by the improvement of the fuel supply systemand optimization of the combustion chamber. This experiences described above can beused as the reference for the low emission research for the Phaser engine.
