The calculation of the temperature field of large synchronous generator is the main means analyzing the heat of generator. On the basis of analyzing the temperature field of large capacity generator, this paper sets up the mathematic model of the stator temperature filed of turbo-generators when operating normally on steady state; the 2D electromagnetic field of electric machine is calculated by the finite element method through studying the theory of electromagnetic field, and we get several kind of distribution about electromagnetic field. The numerical solution result agreed with the theoretical analysis and the design value of electric machine. The magnetic flux density got from it can be used to calculate the distribution of heat loss. Under the premise of the heat loss has been calculated accurately, the three dimensional temperature field of the middle region in the stator of large synchronous generator is calculated. Compared the calculating with testing values of the prototype, it indicates that the method and the procedure of the paper are correct. The study is meaningful to the monitoring and design of the electrical machine.
