Geographic Information System(GIS), is a new developing integrative technology including computer science, geography, mapping science, information and management science. Because of G1 S having strong capability of data analysis and space analysis, it has been widely applied to the management of electrical distribution system, and become one of the key technologies of distribution automation. With the problem of economical running of power grid being more and more attached importance to, The reactive power optimization has become an important problem which the distribution automation has to urgently research and resolve. This paper is part of transverse project-power distribution automation master station system. Ultimate research objective is to develop part of senior function modules of distribution automation system-reactive power optimization based on GIS. The main contributions as follows:By taking SuperMap Objects 5 as developing platform and combining GIS component and the senior programming language Visual C#, power distribution GIS is developed. This system owns all of the GIS function, including: scaling, hawk eyes, managing mass space data and attribution data. Also it can be used for displaying and saving the real-time data.Network topology is base to power flow. The paper redefines the rule of node formation and combines DFS and BFS form a new topology analysis algorithm. Through merges some nodes and confirms the work state of breakers, it makes the new topology. This paper has applied the forward/backward method to power flow calculation and network loss calculation. This method has high calculating efficiency and superior convergent property. The mathematical model is established which is fit for practical application, taking the least summation of active power losses; voltage beyond limits and capacitor investment cost into consideration. On the basis of Simple Genetic Algorithms(SGA), a series of improvements have been put forward. By applying decimal coding, the computing time is reduced. The tournament selection and preserving the best individual have overcome the shortcoming of blindness for Roulette Wheel. The Improved Genetic Algorithms (IGA) adjusts the rates of crossover and mutation in the light of the specific evolution circumstances. They promote the stability and avoid to partial optimization. Also this paper adopts the termination conditions that combine the least reserving generation of the best unit and the largest evolving generation. At last, the results of real cases demonstrate that IGA is superior to SGA, it has more value of application.Based on the mathematical model and IGA, a reactive power optimization program is developed. The program has been integrated into GIS as one of senior function modules, and has more theories value and practical value.
