The automotive ergonomics is an application of ergonomics in automotive industry. It aims to create a harmonious system of the man, automobile and environment. It is an important method to use human model for the design and evaluation of automotive ergonomics. But there is no ergonomics human-modeling system with perfect functions in our country, and the advanced foreign software is not fit for the anthropometric dimension of our country. Creating a human-modeling system is the basic goal of the Chinese automotive industry, so the OPEHM(Occupant Package Ergonomics Human Model) virtual human-modeling system oriented automotive ergonomics design and evaluation is developed in the secondary development of UG, and some key techniques of this system are well researched in the thesis. It will reduce the number of the redesign in automotive ergonomics, shorten the developing cycle, and lower the cost of automobile design. The major research works are outlined as follows.Firstly, based on the analysis of the virtual human model developed for automotive ergonomics around the world, the objective and contents of the research are ascertained. Secondly, the anthropometric mathematic model and database of the human model is built according to the national standard. The dynamic link of the ODBC date source which provides the data basis for the virtual human model, is achieved in the secondary development of UG. Thirdly, the geometric representations methods of the virtual human model are analysed. The hiberarchy (skeletal and flesh subsystems), the simplified skeletal model and the geometric representations method of the virtual human model for automotive ergonomics are established. Fourthly, the movement controls of forward kinematics for human model are discussed. The local coordinate of each segment and the hiberarchy of forward kinematic controls are established. Based on the theory of the movement controls, forward kinematic mathematical model of the virtual human model is built. It provides algorithm for implementing movement controls of the human model. At last, according to automotive ergonomics standard, the software with human-computer interface is developed for the automotive ergonomics design and evaluation. The ergonomic condition of an automobile's driving environment is evaluated using this system. According to the result of the evaluation, some advices are given on how to improve the driving environment in ergonomics.The evaluation example proves that this system provides a powerful means to automotive ergonomics design and evaluation. The software is practical and can be used in other mechanical system for ergonomics evaluation.
