In recent year, along with a lot of significative production in reactive power theory and compensator, Static Synchronous compensator has rapid development. This thesis is just to the development and using of STATCOM in distribution system. The mathematics model of steady voltage type single bridge STATCOM has been set up. The choice range of every parameter has been confirmed, and the control strategy suitable for STATCOM in distribution system has been proposed. Some suggestions for the proper selection of parameters are proposed such as equivalence reactance, equivalence resistance, electric capacity of energy storage of dc side, PI, etc. Using MATLAB/SIMULINK, improving transient stabilization of STATCOM is validated. At last, the application of improving power quality by using energy storing element in STATCOM is discussed.
