Avoiding large-area blackout caused by voltage collaps and guaranteeing power supply for important customer, undervoltage load shedding devices are very necessary for the security and stability of Beijing power grid. Static and transient voltage stability analysis is carried out with the advanced power system analyzing toolbox VSAT and TSAT. The weak buses of Beijing power grid are presented based on the scan and evaluation of the following cases, which include single faults and multiple faults of all the 500kV transmission lines, faults of all the 220kV parallel trassmission lines and units outage. According to the research results, the undervoltage load shedding devices are mainly used to prevent static voltage instability and mid-long term voltage instability. Combining the centralized structure and the distributed structure, the undervoltage load shedding plan for Beijing power grid is presented in this paper.
