The visualization technique is mainly used to display the running status in power system,but the research on visualization of power system transient stability assessment is few.The visualization results of the high-dimensional classified power system transient stability data can provide the real-time running status about safety for the system,which help the controllers in control center to manage the system better.Due to the topology-preserving nature,the SOM (self-organizing map) algorithm can be used to visualize the high-dimensional data.This paper does research on the prevalent visualization algorithm, studies the characteristics of power system transient stability data and proposed a visualization method based on DPSOM(Distance-Preserving Self-Organizing Map) algorithm and feature selection. Then takes the method to visualize the IEEE 16 generators and 50 generators transient stability classified data,the results present excellent performance.This paper presents the concept of power system transient stability,the main assess methods of power system transient stability and the application states of visualization be used to power system.Prevalent visualization algorithm have been introduced,the IEEE 16 generators and 50 generators simulated test system and their organized process of sample data have been displayed also.The SOM(Self Organizing Map) algorithm has been used to visualize the IEEE 16 generators transient stability data.Create SOM network by Neural Networks Toolbox of Matlab,to visualize the original feature data and the feature selected data respectively,the great effect of feature selection to visualization has been revealed by comparison with the results.To analyze the visualization results besed on SOM,the defects of SOM algorithm which work bad on the results have been discoverd.To resolve this problems,the improved algorithm——DPSOM algorithm has been introduced.To realize the DPSOM algorithm by JAVA program and to visualize the feature selected data,the results are satisfied.Take test data to verify the results,which present brilliant performance and prove the classified information are correct.After that,the paper visualizes the IEEE 50 generators system data either.This paper brings up a visualization method for power system transient stability assessment which based on DPSOM and feature selection,which visualizes the classified transient stability assessment data to visual figures and provides the real-time support for the transient stability assessment.
