In order to selected the optimal EGR rate under different ECE R49-13SLP,it was studied that the influence of the emission from diesel engine with EGR system that is used as a very effective means to reduce NOX emissions in this paper.Overseas there are a couple of EGR systems reported, from these EGR systems, using venturi-pipe EGR system chosen in this test. Because of being pressed for test equipment, the parameters for calculating the size of venturi-pipe can't be measured precisely, so using BOOST program to simulate the process of diesel engine to determine the size of venturi-pipe,and designing the construction of EGR cooling system.This test of 498 turbocharged diesel engine using EGR system proceeded EGR rate, EGR temperature and retarding injection timing test. During the experiment SF versus NOX trade-off curve generated from ECE R49-13SLP with EGR were analyzed. Meanwhile the effects of injection timing and EGR temperature investigated. Finally, the optimal EGR rate and EGR temperature were selected according to reduce fuel consumption, reduce CO and HC emissions under different SLP.The influence of the emission from the 498 turbocharged diesel engine with EGR is analyzed in this paper, the results are as follows:(1) The analysis of the emission characteristic under ECE R49-13 model shows that EGR is greatly effective on reducing the NOX emission from the turbocharged diesel engine; the increase of SF is smaller under light - middle loads, while it is remarkable under high loads; the emission of CO is increased under all models with EGR; it is helpful to improve the b under light–middle loads; Generally, the EGR system is the effective way to meet the demands of the emission rules for the turbocharged diesel engine.(2) The EGR system and the fuel injection timing retardation are compared in respect of decreasing the NOX emission from the turbocharged diesel engine in this paper. The results have shown that EGR is not only more effective on reducing the NOX emission but also on improving the b.(3) The cooled EGR and the hot EGR are also compared in respect of decreasing the NOX emission in this paper. Cooled EGR is greatly effective on reducing the NOX emission under the condition of keeping the other emissions unchangeable or improved. Cooled EGR is superior to hot EGR on both the emission and the b. It is better to adopt the cooled EGR system to improve the performance of the engine,.(4) The natural aspirated diesel engine and the turbocharged diesel engine both with EGR are compared in respect of the b. It has shown that the b of the former will be deteriorated under all models. But the b of the latter will be improved under light-middle loads.
