Due to the strong electromagnetic fields in the end region, the end winding of a large turbine generator is acted by extremely large electromagnetic forces. These electromagnetic forces will result in winding vibration and insulator friction, even insulator crack, winding distortion, fixation break in the extreme condition. So it is important to study the electromagnetic forces acting on winding so as to provide more reasonable designing basis for engineering applications. Based on these arguments, this thesis conducts researches on the electromagnetic forces of the end windings of a 600MW large turbo-generator fabricated by Shanghai Turbo-generator Co. Limited. The details about the (transient) electromagnetic forces acting on the end windings of this turbo-generator are reported and some conclusions are given, which may be valuable for engineering application.Chapter 1 summarizes the effects of the electromagnetic forces acting on winding of large turbo-generator. Also, based on the available literature, the present short-circuit limiting technology of the electromagnetic forces acting on winding are reviewed.Chapter 2 introduces the basic theory, model and calculation methods of the electromagnetic forces acting on winding of large turbo-generator analysis.Chapter 3 strives to solve the implementation issues by using ANSYS commercial software to compute the electromagnetic forces acting on winding of large turbo-generator.Chapter 4 and Chapter 5, respectively, contribute to numerical studies of the electromagnetic forces acting on winding of 600MW turbo-generator in steady-state and dynamic operating conditions.Finally, chapter 6 presents the conclusions of the study and the direction for further study.
