Along with the rapid development of the country economy, as the vitals of the economy development, the railway transport is attented by various facets. To solve the conflict between the lack transport ability and the increasing requirement, the Railway Ministry regarded the speed-up and the heavy-haul as the direction. Under the condition of"speed-up and the heavy-haul", our railway heavy-hual transportation develops rapidly, the number of train formation and the gross load hauled increase constantly. Along with the rapid development of heavy haul train, braking system of train appears especially important. Air supply system on locomotive is the base of brake system of the train, it has a direct impact on the performance of initial charge and release after brake application.In this paper, simulated the air flow inside air supply system on locomotive by use the fluid flow theoretics, based on the configuration and function of air supply system on HXD3B locomotive, and established the air supply system model. A series of simulation calculations, such as performance of initial charge and release after brake application were accomplished, and compared with experimental data, the simulation results show a good coherent with experimental data.The compare result shows that the air supply system on locomotive simulation program is credible.Research the impact of displacement of air compressor, volume of main reservoir and pressure of air compressor governor on the initial and release capability. Only displacement of air compressor has significant effect on the initial charge time, the greater displacement the shorter initial charge time. The other parameters has no effect on the initial and release capability of train. A new method that design air supply system of locomotive was presented, this method choose displacement of air compressor and volume of main reservoir base on air flow between main reservoir and brake pipe. Compared simulating results that locomotive use re-selection parameters with the results that locomotive use original parameters, compared results shows that the new method is credible and ascendant.Compared with the method of conservation of mass, the new method can reasonable match parameters and fullest use the capability of air supply system. And, to use simulation program can forecast the performance of initial charge and release after brake application under the condition of using different parameters.These works show that new method is a good tool and has important significance for design air supply system of locomotive.
