Vehicle handling stability not only influences the convenient operation when driving, but also decides high speed driving stability. In this paper, a handling stability research of one pickup vehicle is carried out. First, the suspension and whole vehicle virtual prototype model of the pickup are established using ADAMS/Car software, and then the dynamic simulation and optimization analysis of the suspension and whole vehicle are completed. At the end, comparing the simulation result of the optimized physical prototype is compared with the experiment test result of the optimized physical prototype, Concrete working contents are as follows:(1) According to correlation parameter of the front suspension of physical sample car,dynamic simulation model of the front double-wishbone suspension is established, and than the ideal size dynamic simulation result of front suspension is compared with that of the physical sample car. The result indicates that the kingpin inclination value of the suspension is a little bigger than the ideal size, the size of the kingpin influences not only the steering ability,but also the tire wear.(2) Dynamic model of virtual prototype model is established using ADAMS/Car software, according to national test standard and evaluation standard of handling stability, dynamic simulation test and real test are completed, and both simulation results are compared. The result indicates that the perfermance of the whole vehicle virtual prototype model is similar to that of the physical prototype.(3) Based on (1) and (2), the structure of front double-wishbone suspension is optimized by experiment design as well as optimization analysis.(4) Dynamic simulation analysis of the suspension and whole vehicle virtual prototype model are completed, and the handling stability simulation result of optimized whole vehicle virtual prototype model is compared with the experiment test result of the optimized physical prototype. The result indicates, through the parameter optimization of the front suspension, both the steering wheel angle step imput repense & the steady-state rotating response improve, and thus the handling performance & stability performance improve after optimazation.
