Primula forbesii, which distributes Yunnan and Sichuan province, is one kind of beautiful wild primroses having not been studied carefully or cultivated in gardens. It was after having carefully surveyed the rich germ plasm resources of Primula. L, that Primula forbesii was chosen to be studied as the beginning of developing Chinese famous flower resources. The biological characteristics of Primula forbesii such as seeds germination, growth, photosynthesis, pollination and breeding system were studied. The main conclusions as follows: soaked in GAs solution for six hours, the seeds germinated more quickly than those having not been soaked. P. forbesii adapted to the circumstance with some kinds of shading mostly. All plants from the sowing seeds took about 3 month to flower and its florescence will last for more the one month. P. forbesii is self-incapability, and its fruiting ratio was promoted through artificial pollination. After being introduced into Kunming and Beijing, P. forbesii grows very well, so it may adapt to a wide range of climate variations , and be used widely. More than 100,000 P. forbesii propagated by seeds had been used in Kunming Black Dragon Garden successfully, and from which four type of flowers were picked out. This will be useful to breeding new varieties in the future.
