Objective:By comparing the serum25(OH)D level among healthysubjects, persistent mild and moderate/severe allergic rhinitis(AR)patients,to survey the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in patientswith AR and observe the impact of vitamin D deficiency on the qualityof life in AR patients.Methods:Selecting90subjects from Hunan Provincial People’sHospital between May.2014and Dec.2014.Thirty-two outpatients withpersistent moderate/severe AR, thirty outpatients with persistent mildAR and twenty-eight healthy subjects(control group).Classification ofallergic rhinitis is according to ARIA(allergic rhinitis and its impacton asthma).Selected subjects who excluding vitamin D relateddiseases, have not received treatment of AR within one month andsupplemented vitamin D in six months. All subjects in three groups signedimformed consent and were collected venous blood from elbow.The62ARpatients finished the RQLQ through telephone follow-up. Upper serum werepreserved in-80℃refrigerator after centrifugation. The serum levelsof25(OH)D in three groups were measured by ELISA when all samples werecollected. Finally, calculated and compared the incidence of vitamin Ddeficiency among three groups. To analyze the relationship between25(OH)D and RQLQ scores, grading RQLQ of AR patients, comparing the scoresbetween mild group and morderate/severe group by statistical softwareSPSS18.0.Results:1) The levels of25(OH)D in the moderate/severe AR group andthe mild AR group were significantly lower than those in the control group. The level of25(OH)D in the moderate/severe AR group was significantlylower than that in the mild AR group (P<0.05).2) The prevalence ofvitamin D deficiency was46.98%in the moderate/severe group and that was36.67%in the mild AR group. The total prevalence of vitamin Ddeficiency was34.44%in AR patients. The prevalence of vitamin Ddeficiency was17.86%in the control group. There was significantdifference in the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among the3groups(P<0.05).3)The incidence of vitamin D deficiency in the moderate/severeARgroup was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.01)and the incidence of vitamin D deficiency in the mild AR groupwas significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). Therewas no significant difference between the moderate/severe AR group andthe mild AR group (P>0.05).4) Significant difference was found betweenthe moderate/severe AR group and the mild AR group in RQLQ scores (P<0.01).5) Both in the moderate/severe AR group and the mild AR group, the25(OH)Dlevels were negatively correlated with RQLQ scores (r=–0.643, P<0.01;r=–0.519, P<0.01, respectively). Conclusion:The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in AR patients ishigher, but there is no significant diference between moderate/severe ARpatients and mild AR patients.Vitamin D deficiency may have negativeinfluence on the life quality of AR patients.
