Headache is a kind of disease as well as a common clinical symptom, which is a byproduct during the process of a variety of acute and chronic diseases also the beginning of disease exacerbation or worsening. In the study results of ancient literature on headache, most of them are about Huangdi Neijing, Shanghan Zabing Lun and the four famous doctors in Jin and Yuan Dynasty, however, the research about two volumes of Qianjin Fang by Sun Simiao are few. Instead of special articles, the contents about headache in Qianjin Fang are divided into many different volumes with abundant substances, various therapy and study worth. Qianjin Yifang volume nine and ten, also called Tang Dynasty Shanghan Lun, inherits Zhang zhongjing’s dialectical thinking and combines Sun’s own academic thoughts in it. Therefore, the comparison between zhang’s headache cure theory with Qianjin Fang’s can discuss the inheritance and development of Qianjin Fang from Shanghan Lun and replenish ancient literature about headache to develop new thoughts in clinic. This article arranges relative clauses in Shanghan Lun and Qianjin Fang, from etiology, pathogenesis and therapy these three aspects, to compare Shanghan Lun’s and Qianjin Fang’s discrimination and treatment. The contents about headache in Shanghan Lun exist seventeen times, two of them are not seen in Qianjin Fang. Most of them are existed in Yifang volume nine and ten, a few exist in Yaofang. Headache is abundantly recorded in Qianjin Fang, which gathers relative contents from other ancient medicine works, Sun’s personal experiments and folk prescription to capture them into various volumes such as Acupuncture, Zang-fu organs, Affection by cold, Women and kids, The five sense organs, Apoplexia, Miscellaneous diseases and Tonifying. In the pathogenesis of headache:1. Qianjin Fang replenish the description of headache in Shanghan Lun, including not only head pain, Head and neck stiffness and pain but also head wind, migraine and faint headache.2. The nomination of Qianjin Fang, which is close to modern medicine nominate principles, is former than Shanghan Lun. The name of disease is not only rely on symptom, location and quality, but also on cause of disease. In the process of headache:1. Qianjin Fang completely inherits the six-jing dialectical thoughts from Shanghan Lun, develops zang-fu organ dialectical thoughts and replenishes dialectical thoughts of generalized Shanghan Lun.2. Qianjin Fang continues Zhang’s pregnancy and postpartum and miscellaneous diseases thoughts, then dedicates women’s volume. The contents about headache are not only located in headache after postpartum, gestation headache or sexual strain headache are included.3. In miscellaneous headache, Qianjin Fang replenishes phlegm and retained fluid headache due to wind and inner phlegm. In therapy:1. Qianjin Fang completely inherits the six-jing therepy from Shanghan Lun.2. Qianjin Fang contains more kinds of therapy such as diaphoresis, purgative method and warming method. Therapy methods are based on illness causes, cause Qianjin Fang widens therpy methods, more cure measures are taken in clinic. In clinical measures:1. Qianjin Fang has more various drug forms than Shanghan Lun, including decoction, pill, powder, ointment and vina.2. Qianjin Fang contains abundant contents about external treatment. Including various folk methods, Sun not only elaborates Zhang’s nose-lug and drug-thumb method but also develops coating and drug-pillow method.3. In Qianjin Fang’s Acupuncture volume, the statistical results show that acupoints taken in Qianjin Fang are fastened on taiyang, yangming and du meridian. The points are mainly located in head zone to release pain via local treatments, and minor located in limbs to play distant treatment effects.4. Qianjin Fang pays more attention on moxibustion to treat headache, in Sun’s view, headache, no matter what cause it is, can be released by moxibustion. By the way, Qianjin Fang widens the scope of moxibustion’s application.5. Both Shanghan Lun and Qianjin Fang recommend acupuncture combined with moxibustion or herbs, providing theory for clinical research. In prescription and herbs:1. The situation of one drug with various names is quite common in Qianjin Fang, and some of drugs are common used in ancient years but abandoned in modern Chinese Medicine. So the name of drugs still need more research.2. Modern drug classification methods are totally different from Qianjin Fang, moreover, herb tropism of taste and effects are not the same as what is in Modern Chinese Herb books. So using modern research thoughts to compare herbs in Qianjin Fang with modern Chinese Medicine theory is unreliable, this is why our research does not refer to this aspect. This article, from the comparison in etiology, pathogenesis and therapy these three aspects, discuss the inheritor of Qianjin Fang in headache diacrisis, in order to replenish knowledge of headache in Sui and Tang Dynasty and broaden the thoughts of headache treatments according to syndrome differentiation in clinic.
