Experience And Suggestions On Zhang Peiyu 's Experience In Treating Lung Cancer With Traditional Chinese Medicine

Background:lung cancer has the highest incidence of all the tumors all over the world and it poses a grave threat to human beings. The whole world has about 1,600,000 new lung cancer cases each year and nearly 1,400,000 patients died because of lung cancer. In the year of 2011, China has 651,000 new lung cancer cases and 529,100 died of the illness. The main treatments are surgical management, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Chinese medicine- a special treatment, are playing an increasingly important role in defeating lung cancer. This Chinese special treatment can inhibit tumor growth, decrease the side effect of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and improve patients’life equality. These important functions have already gained global attention.Purpose:Peiyu Zhang, the director of oncology at the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences, Guang An Men Hospital, has studied from TCM experts on cancer, Professor Hongsheng Lin and Professor Daizhao Zhang. He has studied intensively on Huangdi Neijing, Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases, Synopsis of the Golden Chamber, A Treatise on Blood Troubles and other Chinese medicine ancient books. Professor Zhang has also devoted time on academic theories of many other doctors. He has treated malignant tumor using TCM and western medicine for nearly 30 years and he has bountiful clinical treatment experience especially in using TCM. By analyzing and summarizing his clinical experience in lung cancer treatment, the paper is aimed to provide new ideas and methods in treating lung cancer.Methods:Literature review is divided into two parts. The first part introduces the progress of western medicine in treating lung cancer. This part includes the present incidence rate and mortality rate of the illness, High risk factors, and the main methods to treat the cancer, for example, surgical management, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and Molecular targeted therapy. The second part summarizes Chinese doctors’perception of the cause of the illness, its disease mechanism, and the disease location, and this part also summarizes the progress of TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment. At present, Chinese medicine embarks on four aspects- Xu, Tan, Yu, Du and different doctors will focus on different aspects.Results:① In the aspect of the cause of lung cancer and its disease mechanism, Professor Zhang Peiyu agrees the idea of asthenia in origin and asthenia in superficiality. ② Professor Zhang Peiyu has original ideas in treating lung cancer, and the ideas can be summarized as follows:during the treatment, patients should to be oneness with nature; Hands, Foot Yangming and Taiyin are four points of a Taiji; significance of the theory of five movements and six dlimates; synthesis of the four diagnostic methods to distinguish Yin and Yang; Tendons, blood, meat, skins, pulp- bridge of mutual generation of five internal organs; if the blood stasis is not removed, fresh bold can not regenerate; to cure breathe heavily should distinguish deficiency and excess; be good at using Carbon drugs. ③ Professor Zhang Peiyu focuses on classical prescription and empirical formula and these are used frequently:Decoction of Four Mild Drugs, Ramuli Cinnamomi Decoction, Tiaowei Chengqi Decoction, Decoction for Invigorating the Spleen, Jiaoai Decoction and Guilu Erxian Decoction, Shen zhe Zhen Qi Decoction, Baihe Gujin Decoction, Xiebai San, Xian fang Huoming Yin and so on. Meanwhile, he has unique understanding of these medicines:bear gall powder, glauber salt, Rhizoma Pinelliae, marmor serpentinatum, stalactitum and so on.Conclusion:Professor Zhang Peiyu has original ideas about the diagnose and treatment of lung cancer. He treats reinforcing insufficiency and reducing excessiveness as guidelines. He pays attention to both the inside and the outside, he combines TCM and western medicine to treat individually and has gained good clinical curative effect. He cares about patients’health physically and spiritually. He has offered new ideas and methods of lung cancer treatment, and this will help us know more about this illness and cure it.
