Purpose:To explore the correlativity between the expressions of Small breast epithelial mucin(SBEM) and Ki67 in triple negative breast cancer(TNBC) tissues and other clinical or pathological features of TNBC patients. To reveal the relationship between expressions of SBEM combined with Ki67 in TNBC tissues and prognosis of TNBC patients.Material and method: 97 postoperative TNBC patients in Oncology Department of General Hospital of Shenyang Military Command were included in our research. The pathological specimens of research were taken in Pathology Department of General Hospital of Shenyang Military Command, which were analyzed by PV-9000 two steps method to get expression status of SBEM in TNBC patients. Expression status of Ki67, age, tumor size, lymph node metastases status, recurrence and metastases status, body mass index(BMI) and intravascular cancer emboli were get from saved medical records. Ki67 expressions of 5 eligible patients were re-stained to test the accuracy of medical records. All eligible patients had been followed up for at least 29 months, with a median follow-up duration of 49 months. To evaluate survival of the patients, K-M method was used. Log-rank method was used to compare the difference of survival curves between all subgroups. All the tests were two-sided and P<0.05 mean having statistical significance.Results:1.High expression rate of SBEM was 57.7%(56/97),and low expression or no expression rate was 42.3%(41/97).The expression of SBEM and Ki67 has no correlations, with no statistical significance.(P>0.05).2.Expression of SBEM had significant correlations with lymph node metastases status and recurrence or metastases status, no significant correlations with body mass index(BMI),intravascular cancer emboli, clinical status, age, and tumor size.3. Expression of Ki67 had significant correlations with metastases status, recurrence or tumor size and clinical stages, no significant correlations with body mass index(BMI),intravascular cancer emboli, metastases status, age, and lymph node.4. Subgroup SBEM+Ki67+ had worst Overall survival(OS) and Progression Free Survival(PFS) and had difference between Subgroup SBEM-Ki67-, with statistical significance(OS: p=0.020 PFS: p=0.023).Conclusion:1.Expression of SBEM had significant correlations with lymph node metastases status and recurrence or metastases status, no significant correlations with body mass index(BMI),intravascular cancer emboli, clinical status, age, and tumor size.2. Expression of Ki67 had significant correlations with metastases status, recurrence or tumor size and clinical stages, no significant correlations with body mass index(BMI),intravascular cancer emboli, metastases status, age, and lymph node.3. Compared with SBEM and Ki67 being both low expressed, TNBC patients with high expressions of both SBEM and Ki67 had worse OS and PFS.4. It was probably of great significance combined testing SBEM and Ki67 expression in TNBC tissues, which could predict survival and guiding therapeutic methods afterwards.
