Professor Gao Tianshu 's Experience In Treating Stage â…£ Diabetic Nephropathy With Traditional Chinese Medicine "Six Carriage"

Diabetic Nephropathy(DN) in stage Ⅳ occurs in about 50% of patients with diabetes and is the leading cause of the end stage renal disease with the increased ratio year after year. For the complex pathogenesis of DN,the progress of the disease is often progressive. Western medicine mostly demonstrate a number of interventions to reduce the risk such as diet, blood pressure, blood glucose, lipid metabolism and other measures for the control of symptoms.So far,no exact medicine can delay the development of the progression of DN. In his opinion, DN should be treated according to Urine turbidity and Edema, and put forward the causes of the long illness or losing of necessary treatment. The impaired functions of spleen qi and kidney qi may induce urine turbidity for the early stage, and edema for the late stage with the deficiency of spleen yang and kidney yang. The disease located mainly in the spleen and kidney,which is the key position in running the qi. If the spleen and kidney damaged, the abnormal changes of qi may develop disorders, resulting in blood stasis and dampness etc., with the vacuity, deficiency cross characteristics of the pathogenesis. Professor Gao, according to the pathogenesis characteristics of the disease, divide DN in stage Ⅳ into two types: pre-type,spleen and kidney qi deficiency and blood stasis with urine turbid as the main manifestation;post-type,spleen and kidney yang deficiency and blood stasis turbidity with edema as the main manifestation.
