A Randomized Controlled Study Of Radiofrequency Ablation And Acupuncture On Cervical Spondylotic Radiculopathy

Objective:To compare the therapeutic effect of plasma disc decompression(PDD) and acupuncture for the treatment of CSR.Methods:70 patients with CSR were randomized into two groups:PDD group (n=35) and acupuncture group (n=35). PDD group was treated with PDD, acupuncture group was treated with acupuncture once a day for 20 times.Results of all cases had been followed up before treatment,Immediately after treatment,3 months and 6 months after treatment.The therapeutic effect was evaluated with the MacNab standard and VAS score.Results:1.The total effective rate of the PDD group and acupuncture group were 84.38%,96.77% immediately after treatment respectively, and the total effective rate of the acupuncture group was superior to that of the PDD group(P<0.05).The total effective rate of the PDD group and acupuncture group were 75.00%,80.65% in 3 months after treatment.without significant differences(P>0.05).The total effective rate of the PDD group and acupuncture group were 75.00%,77.42% in 6 months after treatment.without significant differences(P>0.05).2.The VAS score of the PDD group and acupuncture group were 4.3±2.2,4.3± 2.2 immediately after treatment respectively with significant differences(P< 0.05).The VAS score of the PDD group and acupuncture group were 4.7±2.2,4.0± 2.2 in 3 months after treatment.without significant differences(P>0.05).The VAS score of the PDD group and acupuncture group were 4.5±2.2,4.5±2.2 in 6 months after treatment.without significant differences(p>0.05).3.The relapse rates of PDD group and acupuncture group was without significant differences(9.38% and 22.58%, P>0.05).The medical cost of the PDD group and acupuncture group were 3456.10±642.67 yuan,6255.99±739.55 yuan respectively(P<0.05).The PDD group found 4 cases of swallowing pain,3 cases of neck shoulder pain,1 case of nausea after he treatment, All adverse reactions were slight and relieved before discharge.Acupuncture group found no adverse reactions.Conclusion:PDD and acupuncture can obviously improve the scores of MacNab and VAS.Acupuncture immediate curative effect is superior to PDD,The long-term curative effect is the same as PDD.PDD and acupuncture are same in relapse.But the relapse rate of the PDD group is lower,The medical cost of the PDD group is more than that of acupuncture group,The PDD group found 4 cases of swallowing pain,3 cases of neck shoulder pain,1 case of nausea after he treatment,Acupuncture group found no adverse reactions.
