A Preliminary Survey On Species Diversity And Conservation Strategy Of Chiroptera In Hainan Island

Chiroptera specie commom call bat, which is most distributed widely, evolutionary one of the most successful mammal in World, A total of 18 species belonging to 201 genera and 1107 families.which can be divided into Megachiroptera and Microchoptera. Most bat species live in tropical and subtropical regions. so far, There are 125 species of Chiroptera , belonging to 29 genera and 7 families in total in china, which takes 11.3% of Chiroptera species in World.There are 32 species of Chiroptera is registered in Hainan Island which account for 11.3% of Chiroptera species in China. Species diversity of Chiroptera is richer. However, some factors, like habitat destroy, kill bat for food, habitat fragement, etc. so the population numbers and population qulitity were decreased. For make sure the species naturally distributed, habitats of chiroptera, protection actuality and extinct factors, so we bring forward measure of protect bats in Hainan Island, for scientific research to Chiroptera specie offer some foundation datum and gist.A Preliminary Survey on Species Diversity of Chiroptera in Hainan Island was studied by literature review, interview with the local people, and fieldwork from June 2007 to December 2007. we also analyzed the diversity index with Shannon-Weiner index. Totally 18 species of 7 genuses belong to 4 families was obtained, which account for 56.3% recorded before in Hainan Island, and 14.4% recorded in China. Tylonycterisp robustul was first record in Hainan Island(submitted data), it presents a high diversity with Shannon-Weiner index is 2.2333, Pielou index is 0.7727. At same time, diversity and evenness in difference habitats have a significant difference, 14 species of bat dewlled with caves, account for 77.8%, and Shannon-Weiner index is 2.0536, Pielou index is 0.7105. Myotis ricketti is an unique species in China. Hipposideros larvatus and Miniopterus schreibersi are listed in China Species Red List as a Vulnerable species (VU). Rhinolophus luctus,R. affinis,Cynopterus sphinx,Tylonycteris robustula are listed in China Species Red List as Near Threatened species (NT) or almost the Vulnerable species (VU). Cynopterus sphinx is listed in"Red Book of endangered Chinese", but grade not evaluated. Giving priority to oriental realm of fauna feature for Chiroptera specie in Hainan Island In our studies, several factors, such as habitats destory by human being's activities, kill bat for food by local people, overuse of pesticide are most serious in bat population decreasing. Based on the data in our study, we called for protection policies as following 4 aspects: firstly, strengthen the protection of bat habitats; secondly, adjusting wildlife protection law and enhancing law enfocement thirdly,enhance scientific studies on these species; fourth, strengthen education and conservation awareness of the public.
