Ampelopsis grossedentata, belongs to Ampelopsis Michx of Vitaceae and A. cantoniesis (H. et A. ) pi. var. grossedentata Hand. - Mazz. It has been used for a long time Its tender stems and leaves can be processed to "health tea" in the way similar to that of processing tea. The "tea" can be used mainly in treating common cold and pyretic fever, pain swelling of pharynx and larynx as well as jaundice hepatitis. Furthermore, its water solution is a desirable drink, drive thirsty and keep cool. So it is a typical plant used both as medicine and food. Now more and more attention has been paid to Ampelopsis grossedentata. Many researchers did a series studies on its pharmaceutical function. Their efforts focused on pharmaceutical function of its crudeextracts and its main compound----dihydromyricetin. Based on their excellentwork, we systematical analyzing main biochemical constituents of the valuable plant. Then we compared and discovered different antimicrobial effects of different extracts from the plant. There some results below:1. Based on synthetical analysis of all sorts of chemical constituents, the tender stems and leaves growing in spring and summer are most useful.2. There were water extracts (about 50%) of high content, among which soluble sugars (about 10%) and amino acids (about 5%) were especially plenty. Thus Ampelopsis grossedentata has great drink value.3. There were a variety of different inorganic nutritive elements, some with higher content can improve human' s health such as Fe, Zn, Se, Cu, . Mn So, it is proved once more that A. grossedentata can be exploited to be drink and health food.4. For the first time, we established a way to determine the content of polyphenols in Ampelopsis grossedentata; through comparing, synthesizing of the ways deteminating total flavonoids, we perfectly established a way to determinate the total flavonoids in Ampelopsis grossedentata. The results showed that there was high content of flavonoids (above 30%). It is rare in plant. The results also showed that there was higher content of polyphnols.grossedentata is a valuable herb with great exploitation potency.5. For the first time, we compared the antimicrobial effect of water extractions and ethanol extractions between processed samples and unprocessed samples. The results showed that the unprocessed sample was more efficient than the other. So, for this herb, it is not necessary to be processed.6.For the first time, we dried the ethanol extracts, then extracted with ethyl ether, ethyl acetate, n-butyl alcohol in turn and also dried each extracts. We compared the antibiotic effects among water, ethanol, ethyl ether, ethyl acetate, n-butyl alcohol extracts and dihydromyricetin. The results showed that there are many compounds with antibiotic effect. The main compound was dihydromyricetin.7. The results showed Ampelopsis grossedentata had wide antibiotic range. They can inhibit bacteria, fungal. The inhibition effect was similar to that of chmical antiseptic and antibiotic. Thus, the utilization of Ampelopsis grossedentata as natural antiseptic and new type antiphlogistic medicine may be prospective.Xiong Haoping (Tea Science) Directed by Professor Yang Weili...
