The Protecting Effect Of Houttuynia Cordata Thunb On Infectious Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome Rats

It's well known that houttuynia cordata thunb(HCT) has therapeutic effect on patients with infections and has been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. In order to understand the possible protecting effect on MODS rats, we established an infectious MODS model by injecting the upper clear phase of rats' 10% stool homogenized liquid in their abdominal cavities, then applied HCT injection to them and dynamically observed the changes of several detecting items. As a result, the blood-gas analysis in MODS group showed a lower PaO2 and PaO2/FiO2, whereas their serum total bilirubin(T. BIL),creatinine(Cr) and tumor necrosis factor- a (TNF- a ) increased significantly, which indicated multiple injuries (lung, liver and kidney) of the models. After utilizing HCT, almost all items above got better, indicating the improvement of the injuries. Our data suggested that infectious peritonitis caused by rat's self-stool could lead to MODS, and HCT played a protecting role on the infectious models.
