Constipation is a common disease or a symptom in clinic. Its morbidity is very high, especially in the old and the femal. Constipation influence the daily life and work of patients seriousely. Doctors of TCM planning treatment according to diagnosis to constipation got the more curative effect than in Modern Medicine therapy. Wu-tang of Qing Dynasty created Fluid-increasing Decoction to nourish yin, clear away heat and loose bowel to relieve constipation. The treatment in TCM is called Raising Water to Run ships. The purpose of the item is to research the mechanism of Fluid-increasing Decoction in treating constipation and the relation of the medicinal effectiveness with the different dozes by linking the methods of the modern experiments with planing treatment according to diagnosis of TCM.Animal experiments were carried out by testing the intestinal tract motor function of normal rats and model rats, the move rate of carbon particle in small intestine, the water content in intestinal canal of model rats and the amplitude and the frequence of contraction of extracorporeal intestinal smooth muscle. Results show:Two doze groups of Fluid-increasing Decoction can both improve the motor function of intestinal tract and the effect of high doze group is more evident than the low one.Tow dozes of Fluid-increasing Decoction may increase the move rate of carbon particle and the high doze group is better than the low one too.Fluid-increasing Decoction may add water to intesinal tractand the high dose group excel the low one.In conclusion, the mechanism of Fluid-increasing Decoction treating constipation is that the decoction indirectly improve the intestinal movement by increasing the water content in intestinal tract. At the same time, we observed that there is pertinency between the doze and the potency.
