Morus alba L. has been used as a traditional herbal medicine to treat diseases in China for thousands of years. It mainly distributes in Xinjiang, Herbei and Yunnan provinces. In recent years, some references showed that the leaves and fruits of Morus alba L. have various pharmacological activities, such as anti-inflammation, antivirus, anti-hypertension, and so on. However, up to now, there are a few literatures on the study of the chemical constituents in anti-inflammation and antivirus. In this paper, in order to obtain the chemical constituents from the active parts, the extract of Morus. alba.L was studied. Eleven compounds were isolated and purified by various chromatographic methods, such as silica gel column chromatography, macroporous resin column chromatography and preparative thin layer chromatography (PTLC). According to physiochemical properties and related literature data, nine compounds of them were identified by spectroscopic methods. They are as following: 3, 4-2',2'-dioxypropyl-Benzoic acid ( I ),salicylic acid ( II ) , succinicacid (III) , daucosterol (IV), 1,2,3, 4,5, 6-hexanehexanol (V) , P-sitosterol (VI) , a-amyrin (VII) , umbelliferone (VI) and scopoletin ( IX ) o Among them, I was a new compound, and II , V were isolated from the genus for the first time. Other compounds are being identified.
