| Objective To observe the serum concentration differences of pro-collagen â…¢ (PC â…¢) and evaluate the impact of intervention on myocardium fibrosis and left ventricular diastolic function in essential hypertensions(EH) before and after Valsartan treatment.Methods Thirty-fore patients with essential hypertension consecutively collected were divided into accompanied with left ventricular hypertrophy (group LVH) and without that (group NLVH) according LVMI Patients of 2 group received treatment of Valsartan for three months Before and after treatment Doppler echocardiogram and radioimmunology analyses were performed.Results Serum concentrations of PCIII increased in hypertensive patients as compared with normotensive subjects((P<0.05).The serum PCâ…¢ were not related to the plasma concentrations of AngII (T =0.3362, P>0.05).An inverse correlation was found between serum PC â…¢ and the ratio of VE/VA ( T =0.8257 , P<0.05).After treatment,(l)patients of 2 groups: Blood pressure(BP) decreased(P<0.05); VE, VE/VA increased and VA decreased(P<0.05);(2) group LVH:LVMI significantly decrease(P<0.05); PCâ…¢ decreased(P<0.05);(3) group NLVH: PCIII decreased(P<0.05).Conclusion Serum concentrations of PC â…¢ in essential hypertension rises abnormally indicating enhanced tissue synthesis of collagen .Measurement of serum PC â…¢ has following clinical significances. First of all, it is an useful marker of reflecting the degree of tissue synthesis of collagen associated with hypertension. Secondly, it provides indirect diagnostic information on diastolic function of left ventricle. Finally, it can be used to evaluate effect of antifibrosistherapy in myocardial fibrosis.
