This study is about the GGC repeat alleles polymorphism of FRAXE from children in Qinba Mountain Area and the association between FRAXE and mental retardation. In this study, 128 mental retardated children and 111 control children from Zhashui and Ankang county in Qinba Mountain Area are involved. DNA is extracted from blood samples elected from these children by standard technigues. The FRAXE polymorphism is detected by PCR techniques and DNA sequencing .The FRAXE polymorphism is analyzed and defined with EXCEL software. The GGC alleles of patients and controls are analyzed with CLUMP software. This software is used for analyzing the polymorphism of FRAXE from children of different sex and different area. The results show that the GGC repeat alleles of FRAXE of controls hi Qinba Mountain Area range from 5 to28. There are no differences of FRAXE distribution in patients and in controls, also in different sexes. But the distributions of the GGC trinucleotide repeat alleles of FRAXE of patients and controls hi Zhashui county are significant different. The reason perhaps is that the trinucleotide repeat alleles ofFRAXE don't contribute to MR within smaller alleles, but with the increasing of repeats, FRAXE will impact the intelligence.
