Objective To study the lesion produced in rabbit brain tissue by a radiofrequency hyperthermia generator with given heating time and vary probe temperature, also study the apoptosis mechanism in the lesion. Methods Rabbit brain tissue is treated by a radiofrequency hyperthermia generator with given heating time and vary probe temperature, the radius of lesions are measured and rabbit brain are examined pathologicaly by HE, TUNEL, or TEM. Result It was found that a simple theoretical conductive heat transfer model predicted the relationship between lesion radius and heating probe temperature quite well. Lesion radius could be a function of heating probe temperature, radius of heating probe, body temperature. It was also worked out the lowest temperature cause brain lesion is 45.3720 degree C and , because brain tissue were not only heated by inner parts' transfer but also direct heated by radiofrequency, radius of heating probe should be correct by multiply0.7957. And apoptosis is observed either in TUNEL or in transelectromicroscopy(TEM). Conclusion A simple theoretical conductive heat transfer model predicted the relationship between lesion radius and heating probe temperature quite well. Lesion radius could be a function of heating probe temperature, radius of heating probe and body temperature. Apoptosis is one mechanism cause neuron death and should pay more attention to it.
