Temporomandibular disorders (TMD), is one of high incidence rate in the oral and maxillofacial diseases, and the disease is composed of a series of symptoms. The disease has common pathogenesis and clinical symptoms. In general, the causes of TMD are mingled together, and the symptoms of TMD are very complicated. In the clinic, the TMD was divided into a lot of types, and there are many ways to be able to treat the TMD.Aim: the study was to explore the changes of cerebral blood flow during mastication exercise before and after the splint loaded.Methods: we chosed 12 the TMD patients, and used the transcranial Doppler analyzer made in germany, and test the cerebral blood flow of each patient in eight stages, including, before the mastication no splint loaded, five minutes after the mastication no splint loaded, ten minutes afte the mastication no splint loaded, fifteen minutes after the mastication no splint loaded; before the mastication the splint loaded, five minutes after the mastication the splint loaded, ten minutes after the mastication the splint loaded, fifteen minutesafter the mastication the splint loaded. The changes of the cerebralblood flow, including: systolic peak velocity (Vs), enddiastolic peakflow velocity (Vd), and mean peak velocity (Vm) of the middlecerebral artery. At the same time ,we chosed 30 volunteers as thecontrolled group.the content and methods tested was the same as theTMD patients.Results:1. The systolic peak velocity (Vs), the enddiastolic peak flow velocity(Vd), and the mean peak velocity (Vm) of the middle cerebral arterywas 107.00,52.54,72.45 before mastication. Vs,Vd, Vm of the middlecerebral artery was 113.27, 56.90, 77.72 after mastication.2.Vs, Vd, and Vm of the middle cerebral artery of beforemastication was 107.45, 52.36 , 72.90. Vs, Vd, and Vm of the middlecerebral artery of ten minutes after mastication was 114.27 , 55.81,77.09.3.Vs, Vd, and Vm of the middle cerebral artery of ten minutes aftermastication before the splint loded was 112.00 , 56.54, 76.45. Vs, Vd,Vm of the middle cerebral artery of ten minutes after mastication afterthe splint loded was 109.45, 55.37, 75.90.4.Vs, Vd, and Vm of the middle cerebral artery of the controlled groupwas 115.73, 56.90, 79.53. Vs, Vd, and Vm of the middle cerebralartery of the TMD patients'group was 113.07, 53.60, 77.20.Conclusion:The blood flow in middle cerebral artery of the controlled group and the patients' group was shown to change significantly after mastication.The blood flow in middle cerebral artery of the TMD patients' group was not shown to change after mastication before and after the splint loaded. The experiment was shown that the mastication can improve the blood flow of brain, we should do more work to explore the cause.
