Study On Applying GP-084 Cellular Silicone Rubber Interlayer To Make Facial Prostheses

For the patient with large maxillofacial defect, the prostheses is large and heavy, which not only affects its retention and normal physical function, but also increases patient's foreign body. So to lighten the prostheses is the key to get good retention and to improve the patients' maxillofacial functions. But the density of existing prosthetic materials aer a little bigger. In order to have better prosthetic effect, we tried to apply GP-084 Cellular Silicone Elastomer to make facial prostheses and discussed the feasibility of the structure of sandwich made by GP-084 Cellular Silicone Rubber and SY-1 Silicone Elastomer in making facial prostheses.In this study, the mechanical and physical properties of the sandwich structure, made by SY-1 Silicone Elastomer and GP-084 Cellular Silicone Elastomer, were tested and evaluated by a series of standard experiments.The results are shown below:1. The densities of GP-084 Cellular is much smaller than that of SY-1 Silicone Elastomer. The weight of sandwich structure is 45.46% lighter than that of SY-1 at the same volume. So the sandwich structure made by SY-1 Silicone Elastomer and GP-084 Cellular Elastomer can distinctly reduce the weight of the prostheses.2. The Shore A hardness of GP-084 Cellular Elastomer was15 2.4, and that of SY-1 Silicone Elastomer was 24 3.6. And the Shore A hardness of GP-084 Cellular Elastomer covered with different thickness (1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm) of SY-1 Silicone Elastomer were inferior to that of SY-1 Silicone Elastomer. But the effect was limited and can't get to perfect pliancy. It needs further investigation.3. With the increase of the thickness of SY-1 Silicone Elastomer, the tensile strength and the ultimate elongation of sandwich structure markedly enhanced. So the sandwich structure can improve the low mechanic properties of GP-084 Cellular Silicone Elastomer.4. To evaluate the compressed permanent deformation of sandwich structure with 2mm SY-1 Silicone covering GP-084. The difference of the testing results between the sandwich structure and GP-084 Cellular Silicone Elastomer had no statistic sense. So sandwich structure had the same elasticity with cellular silicone elastomer.5. To evaluate the bonding strength of these two silicone materials. The result is that the bonding strength was superior to the tear strength of GP-084 Cellular Silicone Elastomer. There was no distinct interface between these two materials in sandwich structure by SEM observation. So the adhesive bond came from chemical reaction of two materials.
