Part 1 Retention of The Postior Resin-Bonded Partial Denture with A Modified DesignObjective: The aim of this study was to test in vitro the resistance of a modified posterior resin-bonded fixed partial denture (PRBFPDs) to detachment by a universal testing machine. Methods: Extracted teeth were used to prepare specimens each consisting of a premolar and a molar with a space equivalent to a molar in between. Three groups were prepared ( n=10 ). Specimens of groap A were prepared to receive conventional PRBFPDs with proximal grooves, occlusal rests, and lingual wings. Specimens of groap B were prepared similarly to the ones of the groap A but with a rest strut instead of rests. Also the specimens of the groap C, but with slots instead. Castings were made and their fit surfaces micro-etched. Castings were cemented with 3MESPE and then separated from the abutments under tensile loading. Results: Mean separation forces were: Specimens of number 1=307 N, Specimens of number 2 = 45 1N, Specimens of number 3 = 554N.Conclusion: The modified PRBFPDs had better retention than conventional PRBFPDs.Part 2 Short Term Effect of The Postior Resin-Bonded Partial Denture with A Modified DesignObjective: The purpose of the prospective clinical follow-up was to evaluate the acceptability of resin-bonded fixed partial denture with a modified design used in KinnedyClass III patients over a short periodMaterials and methods: 18 missing teeth were restored with resin-bonded fixed partial denture with a modified design. The dentures were luted with Calibera?Resin Cement according to the manufacture's recommendation. The parameters considered as clinical failure retainers were displacement, detachment, Patients were reevaluated after 3,6,12 months. Results: Among all 18 postior resin-bonded fixed patial dentures, no prosthesis decementation was observed, No statistical significance of SBI and PI before and after rehabilitation. Conclusion: Over a period varying from 6 to 12 months, the resin-bonded fixed partial dentures showed good clinical results. Promising results of clinical service indicated that this modified design dentures maybe become a long-lasting restorations after a carefull case selection. Of course it needs further clinical follow-up.
