[Objective] To evaluate the blocking efficacy of five root canal filling materials. [Methods] Fifty extracted human teeth were randomly divided into five groups ,A B C D E, each group with 10 teeth. The teeth of group A B C D E were respectively filled with gutta-percha point plus Zinc Oxide-eugenol(ZOE) paste ZOE paste VTTAPEX gutta-percha point plus VITAPEX gutta-percha point plus Compound Thymol Cement paste .The groups with gutta-percha point used the method of cold lateral condensation. All teeth were put in 0.9% NS 37℃ for five days after being examined by X -ray ,then five teeth from each group at random were chosen to be painted two coats of protect lacquer upon apical foramen 1 mm. The microleakage was measured in 5 stained teeth of each group. The micro-chink between filling materials and the wall of root canal of the other 5 teeth was measured with scanning electron microscope. [Results] The mean of microleakage and micro-chink of group A B C D E is respectively (2.37±0.87) (8.23±1.52). (2.69±1.39), (1.49±0.78), (4.24±0.91)mm and (2.97±3.78),...
