Non-clinical Laboratory Safety Studies Of Pirfenidone

Pirfenidone (5-methyl-1-phenyl-2-(lH)-pyridone,PFD) which have beneficial effects for the treatment of fibrotic diseases including renal, liver and pulmonary fibrosis and for multiple sclerosis is a new investigational drug synthesized by Shanghai Ruixing Genomics Inc.. The antifibrotic effect of pirfenidone has been demonstrated in several animal models of fibrosis for different organs. In order to provide new data on safety of non- clinical studies of pirfenidone and references data of its clinical application,the acute toxicity effects in mice, rats and Beagle dogs,long-term toxicity effects in Beagle dogs & rats,general pharmacology in mice and rats, the acute phototoxicity effects in mice and the photosensitivity effects (photoallergic effects) in Cavia procellus of Pirfenidone were studied.
