| Objective: To inquire into clinical significance of radial displacement of the meniscus and its role played in pathogenesis of knee osteoarthritis .The magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of meniscus displacement were observed, which may contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods: 283 knees of 276 patients were observed using magnetic resonance imaging. Quantitive indices were designed, which can be refered to age, gender and radiographic signs of osteoarthritis for further analysis. Random data library technique was used to match those cases who had OA signs and who had not in age sequence to get the contrast. Results: The patients for knee with radial displacement were older than those without displacement. In age matched subjects, the degree of radial displacement for knees with OA signs was greater than those without OA signs. Differences were highly significant (P<0.001). In all cases and those cases who had displacement, the degree of radial displacement for knees on female was greater than that on male. Differences were significant (P<0.05).The number and degree of displacement of lateral meniscus were much lower than those of medial meniscus. Conclusions: It is concluded that radial displacement of meniscus has close connections with age, gender and radiographic signs of osteoarthritis. |
