Propolis compound glucose-lowering tablet is composed of propolis, ginseng and Ganoderma Lucidum that has hypoglycemic effects. In the study, the best formula of the tablet, its hypoglycemic effects and acute toxin were investigated. 1. Formula selection(1) Preparing experiments showed that propolis at dosage 2.40g/kg, 0.60g/kg, ginseng at dosage 0.35g/kg, 0.15g/kg, Ganoderma Lucidum at dosage 0.09g/kg, 0.24g/kg were the most effective in lowering glucose respectively. So these dosage were selected for the next experiment to test the best formula.(2) With the selected dosage of propolis, ginseng, Ganoderma Lucidum orthogonal tests were carried out. The result showed that the tablet with ratio 20:5:3 of propolis, ginseng and Ganoderma Lucidum was the most effective in lowering blood glucose in mice with high blood glucose.(3)Experiments on stability, flavor, color, solubility showed that adding 0.8% of mincemeat 15% of β—CD. 30% of soluble-solid were good for the tablet. 2 Hypoglycemic effectsIn the experiment mice with normal and high blood glucose were treated with high(3.60g/kg), moderate (2.00g/kg) and low (0.80g/kg) dosage. The results are as follows:(1) After administration on normal mice for 7 successive days, the tablet (low, moderate, high dosage) had no significant effect on these mice's weight, while administration for 14 successive days, it can enhance liver glycogen content of them. High dosage of the tablet can improve glucose tolerance ability of normal mice quickly.(2) Compared with the control group, moderate and high dosage of the tablet cansignificantly lower blood glucose of mice when taking food 5 hours afterwards, but has no significant effects on mice when taking food 12 hours afterwards.(3) Compared with the model group, the moderate and high dosage of tablet can antagonize the high blood glucose induced by external-origin adrenaline and glucose after administration for 14 successive days, and improve significantly glucose tolerance ability as well as increase liver glycogen content of mice with high blood glucose.(4) Compared with the model group, 4 weeks of successive administration of the tablet can significantly increase body weight of mice, decrease the volume of water and food input as well as the hyperglycemic of alloxan-induced diabetic mice.3. SafetyThe half lethal dosage (LD50) could not be calculated as no dead mice was found after treating with the highest concentration and volume of the tablet. The maximal tolerance dosage of the mice in this test amounted to 22.00g/kg which was equivalent to 170 times of the clinical dosage of an adult (average weight is set to 70kg).It could infer from the study thai Propolis compound glucose-lowering tablet would have great potential to become one kind of health care food that has hypoglycemic and liver-protecting effects.
