| Objectives Balb nude mouse model with human hepatocellular carcinoma was established in our study to investigate the influence and the significance of Chinese traditional herbs, Fuzheng anti-tumor decotion ( Fuzheng decoction in the following text), on NK cells and FasL expression on their membranes and Fas/FasL expression and apoptosis in the tumor tissues .Materials and methods The human hcc in Balb nude mice model was establishsd by hypodermic injection of BEL-7402 cellular suspension at the dose of 10~7 cells per capita. In the test, 24 6-week aged nude mice weighing 18-23g were devided into 3 groups, feeding on Normal saline (0.6ml/d), Fuzheng decoction(0.6ml/d) and ADM (1.5 mg/kgd) respectively. Their levels of CD49b expressed splenocytes and CD49-FasL coexpressed splenocytes were analyzed through flow cytometric analysis and correlated to their tumor volumes. The expression of Fas and FasL and the level of apoptosis in the tumor tissue were detected through immunohistochemistry test. All the data were compared between these groups.Results All animals produced successfully the transplanted tumor. A negative correlation exists between levels of CD49b expressed and CD49-FasL coexpressed splenocytes and tumor volumes. There was greater absolute value of correlation coefficient between CD49b expressed splenocytes and tumor volumes. The levels of CD49b expressed and CD49-FasL coexpressed splenocytes were both higher in Fuzheng group than the others obviously, but not significantly correlated to tumor volumes. In the Fuzheng Group, Fas and FasL of the tumor tissue were upregulated and downregulated respectively, compared with those of NS Group. The apoptosis level of tumor in the Fuzheng Group is higher than that ine the NS Group. Coclusions1. The size of the transplanted tumors correalate negatively to the NK levels in vivo to a significant extent.2. Fuzheng anti-tumor decotion improves NK cells and FasL expression in NK cells...
