objective: To study both HIV/AIDS epidemic situation inbirth-age-women and risk factors of mother-to-children-transmission (MTCT) inNanyang city. Methods: All the birth-age-women who are former paidblood donors in Nnyang city were asked to participate HIVscreening. Those with HIV-infected were required to fill outcorresponding questionnaire relating to demographic status, history of children, type of children feeding etc. Data was analyzedwith chi-square test and logistic regression. Results: There weretotally 939 birth-age women were found HIV-infected. Their averageage was 38.99 years old, and standard deviation was 5.63. Of them, about 98.9% were married, and only 1.1% were non-married. Theresults of case-control study showed that the proportion of childrenwith HIV-infected from the mother with opportunity infection duringpregnant was significantly higher than whom without opportunityinfection (90.48% vs. 15.38%, p<0.05), there also were significantdifference between the proportion of the children with HIV-infectedwho were first-infant, second infant and third infant (45.76%, 13.83%,9.09% p<0.05), between the proportion of the children withHIV-infected who were bottle-feeding, mother-milk-feeding and admixture-feeding(3.45%, 26.13%, 45.83%, p<0.05), between the proportion of thechildren with HIV-infected who were delivered through vagina andthose through surgery(28.17% vs. 4.55% ,p<0.05) .The proportion ofthe children with HIV-infected who were premature infant wassignificantly higher than that whom were normal infant.(55.56% vs.23.23%, p<0.05). According the result of logistic regression, the risk factors were opportunity-infection-of-the-mother (OR=10.19, 95%CI:1.373~ 245.48), pregnancy with STD (OR=6.54, 95% CI:1.15-37.15), premature infant (OR=8.89, 95%CI:1.698 ~ 56.694), first-infant (OR=5.48,95%CI: 2.56-11.74). The protective factors were delivering-through-surgery-in-choose-date (OR=0.12, 95%CI: 0.016-0.933), the-bottle-feeding (OR=0.08, 95%CI:0.01~0.64), shorter-time-of-deliver (OR=0.07, 95%CI:0.02~0.23), antiretroviral therapy of pregnant woman and of infant. (OR=0.04, 95%CI:0.002-0.833)。 Conclusions: PMTCT is most important in Nanyang city. The risk factors of mother-to-children-transmission may include type of infant feeding, time of deliver, type of deliver, opportunity infection of the mother, the order of infant.
