This study adopted coil-and-glue method to embolize bronchus and took New Zealand rabbit as experimental material, which was divided into two parts. Part One: Experimental study of coil-and-glue methods embolizing bronchus. Objective To evaluate the optimal coil and glue combination for embolizing rabbit bronchus. Materials and Methods To embolize bronchus of rabbit anterior lobe, using 3mm coil and albomin gel(A group), 3mm coil and NBCA(B group), 2mm coil and NBCA(C group) and 4mm coil and NBCA(D group) respectively. Coil expectoration, lobe collapse, inflammation and foreign-body granuloma were investigated and scored as 0 to 2. Results There is statistical difference between B group and A group, and the same C group and D group respectively. Conclusion Proper-sized coil may reduce expectoration and other complications, and NBCA is more effective than albomin gel to make collapse. Part Two: Experimental study of bronchus embolization lung volume reduction surgery (LVRS) for minimally invasive treatment of emphysema. Objective To evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of coil-and-glue method treating rabbit emphysema model. Materials and Methods 16 cases of rabbit emphysema model were divided into two groups, called embolization group(10 cases) and control group(6 cases). P max, FEFmax, Vexpiration and PO2 were measured, and coil expectoration and lung collapse investigated. Result Statistical difference was found between these two groups in Pmax at 1 week after embolization and the same in Pmax and Vexpiration at 4 weeks. In embolization group, there are also statistical difference of Pmax and Vexpiration in post-emphysema against ante-emphysema, 1 week after embolization and 4 weeks after embolization respectively. Conclusion Coil-and-glue method of embolization undertaking rabbit LVRS can improve rabbit pulmonary function, which could remain a relatively long period. However, infection problem should be solved further.
