| BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: With the development of the social and people' s quality, more and more people began to pay attention to height. Short stature is the commonest cause of referral to a paediatic endocrine unit. Growth hormone deficiency(GHD) was one major reason and has a severity effect on the children' s health. Recombinant human growth hormone (r-hGH ) has been used to treatment GHD since 1980s and was testified to be effective and safe. But it is so expensive that cann't meet the GHD children in our country .To find a target to judge early the curative effect of r-hGH, we measured serum IGF-1 and leptin levels before and after r-hGH treatment in the GHD children .METHODS: Serum IGF-1 and leptin levels were measured by immunoradiometric assay in 20 prepuberal normal children and 23 children with GHD before and after r-hGH treatment, respectively. Body mass index(BMI) and relationship between the growth rate after 3 months of treatment in the GHD children and serum IGF-1 levels as well as leptin levels after r-hGH treatment were observed at the same time. All calculation were performed with SPSS10.0.RESULTS: 1 The study of serum IGF-1 levels1.1 Serum IGF-1 levels were significantly lower in the GHD group compared with the controls ;1.2 There was a prominent correlation between serum IGF-1 levels andthe peak GH levels in the children with GHD ;1.3 Serum IGF—1 levels were obviously inclined after r — hGH treatment in the GHD group;1.4 The serum IGF-1 levels after 7 days r—hGH treatment with the growth rate after 3 months treatment were positive relation in GHD group;2 The study of serum leptin levels2.1 Serum leptin levels were significantly higher in the GHD group compared with the controls ;2.2 There was a prominent correlation between serum leptin levels and the peak GH levels in the children with GHD ;2. 3 There was a significant correlation between serum leptin levels and BMI in the GHD children and the BMI was not significantly changed between before and after r-hGH treatment;2.4 Serum leptin levels were obviously declined after r — hGH treatment in the GHD group;2. 5 The serum leptin levels after 1 month of r—hGH treatment with the growth rate after 3 months treatment were negative relation in the GHD group.CONCLUSIONS:1 Serum IGF-1 levels after 7 days r-hGH can be used in forecasting curative effect of r- hGH in the children with GHD;2 Serum leptin levels after r—hGH treatment can also be used in forecasting curative effect of r- hGH. |
