Comparison Of Clinical Effect Between Homologous Cartilage Ossicular Prosthesis And Hydroxyapatite Ossicular Prosthesis

PremiseChronic otitis media is a common disease in otolaryngology, which can always lead hearing loss and even mortal complication. Tympanoplas-ty and reconstruction of ossicular chain are applied to treat this disease. Reconstruction of ossicular chain needs ossicular prosthesis to reconstruct ossicular chain's integrity. Ossicular prosthesis has three types: autoal-lergic, homologous and biocompatible material. The object of this study is to find a suitable ossicular prosthesis by comparing the clinical effect of homologous cartilage ossicular prosthesis and hydroxyapatite ossicular prosthesis.Materials and method1. Materials: 60 cases (ears) undergoing tympanoplasty and reconstruction of ossicular chain between 2004 — 06 and 2005 — 02 in the 1st affiliated hospital of China medical university.2. Method: 60 cases (ears) were served as group A (homologous cartilage ossicular prosthesis) and group B (hydroxyapatite ossicular prosthesis). Two groups were pure tone tested and operated in the same condition.3. Stastic analysis: All the data was tested by t test and chi square test respectively.Results1. The pure tone average improvement did not differ significantly between the homologous cartilage ossicular prosthesis and hydroxyapatite ossicular prosthesis, P>0. 05.2. The healing of tympanic membrane did not differ significantly between the homologous cartilage ossicular prosthesis and hydroxyapatite ossicular prosthesis, P>0. 05.3. The ratio of exodus of ossicular prosthesis did not differ significantly between the homologous cartilage ossicular prosthesis and hydroxyapatite ossicular prosthesis. Both are 0%.ConclusionThe clinical effect did not differ significantly between the homologous cartilage ossicular prosthesis and hydroxyapatite ossicular prosthesis, P>0. 05.
