To assess whether high level SCI has any injury on heart and to investigate the early effect of propofol on heart, evaluating the expression characteristics of muscarinic cholinergic receptor (M2 AchR)mRNA in myocardium after high level SCI in rats.Experimental acute cervical 7 spinal cord injury model was created by modified Allen's method. Hemodynamics variables including HR, MAP, LVSP and ±dp/dtmax in all the injury groups significantly decreased. Cardie enzymes and endothelin-1 in injury groups were much higher than that of control group. Ultrastructure of myocardial tissue was found that fible dissolved slightly and mitochondria vacuolated. Low dose of popofol may induce hemodynamics fluctuations and inhibit heart function in rat after high level SCI. But lower dose of popofol can improve diastolic and contracting function of left ventricle, and significantly inhibit expression of c-fos protein, allevating myocardial injuries. In the early period of high level SCI, the expression of M2 receptor mRNA in rat myocardium upregulated.
