Quality control is the key to modernization, industrialization and internationalization of Chinese traditional medicine. Curative effect of Chinese traditional medicine is corporate result of many kinds of components. If only quantificationally controls one or several components, it is difficult to generally scale quality, curative effect and stability of Chinese traditional medicine, so measuring Chinese traditional medicine regarding it as an integer becomes the emphasis of study. Traditional measurement technology has shortcoming of destroying samples, high cost, wasting time, complex operation and offline analysis. This paper is concentrated on measurement of Chinese medicinal materials based on infrared spectroscopy for its little sampling, no pollution, rapid measurement and online measurement. As the basic research of fingerprint spectrum, study on experiment and method of Chinese medicinal materials includes 2 parts: Mid-Infrared and Near-Infrared regions. Transmission mode is used in Mid-Infrared region. Radix salviae miltiorrhizae: by Principal Component Analysis(PCA), samples of near regions are near in scores plot; by Multiplicative Scatter Correction(MSC), correct rate of SIMCA classification is 82%; correct forecast rate of logically trained BP neural network is 100%. By PCA, wild and planting liquorices are rapidly discriminated. Diffuse reflection mode is used in Near-Infrared region. When diffuse reflection is used, experiment condition, powder size and sampling should be considered. Radix salviae miltiorrhizae: by PCA, clustering result is associated with regions; by logical data predisposal, correct rate of SIMCA classification is 94%; correct forecast rate of trained BP neural network is 100%. Normalization reduces disturbance and makes character obvious so that clustering result of wild and planting liquorices is ideal. Research results indicate that infrared spectroscopy can be used to rapidly measure the Chinese medicinal materials, such as division of Chinese medicinal materials, classification of radix salviae miltiorrhizae of different product regions and discrimination in wild and planting liquorices.
