Objectives To study the effect of microwave on apoptosis of human lung carcinoma cell line A549. To observe the different effects of variate dosages and action-times of microwave radiation. Methods A549 cells were radiated by different densities and action-times of microwave. The changes in A549 cells were analyzed by Morphology observation, MTT, FCM, IHC and image analysis system to observe the apoptosis. Results Microwave obviously inhibited the activity and inducted the apoptosis of A549 cells. Time dependence and dose dependence were definite. Down-regulation of Bcl-2 expression and up-regulation of P53 expression were observed by image analysis of IHC after radiation. Conclusions Microwave can promote apoptosis of A549 cells. The effect depends on the action time and radiation dose. The Bcl-2 and the P53 proteins may be involved in the apoptotic process of A549 cells inducted by microwave.
