Objective To compare the differences between propofol and sevoflurane in affecting blood sugar, cortisol concentration and hemodynamics during the operation of laparoscope (LC) and to find a more reasonable method for anesthesia. Methods Forty patients who are going under LC and that are in Grade Ⅰ to Ⅱ according to ASA grading are divided into two groups randomly. Propofol is given to Group Ⅰ during anesthesia induction and then continuously pumped iv at 4-8 μg/kg/h for anesthesia maintenance. As for Group Ⅱ, sevoflurane is inhaled for anesthesia induction and with 1-2% in concentration for anesthesia maintenance. During the operation, CSI is kept at 40-60 to adjust the speed of propofol and the concentration of sevoflurane. Monitoring items: In all the cases, SBP, DBP, HR, SPO2 are recorded in pre-anesthesia (T0), 2 minutes after endotracheal intubation (T1), 10 minutes after endotracheal intubation (T2), pneumoperitoneum for 30 minutes (T3), and operation completion (T4) separately. Venous blood sugar and cortisol concentration are tested at the same time, the latter by radio-immune assay. And the time for respiration resuming, recovery, extubation and whole anesthesia procedure are recorded as well. Statistic method: all data are in the form of X|- ±S(X|-mean;s, standard deviation). T test is performed and significant deviation is when (P<0.05). Results Blood sugar: it shows that in both groups blood sugar decreases in Ti and T2 compared with To, and then increases in T3 and T4 significantly. Cortisol: in both groups cortisol decreases significantly (P<0.05);it increases significantly in T3, T4 and T5 compared with To in Group I (P<0.01);and in Group II, it doesn't alter much except in Ti;it differs significantly in T3, T4 and T5 between the two groups (P<0.01). SBP, DBP: these two parameters decrease significantly in Ti and T2 compared with To(P
