Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and behaviours of community dwelling people towards to hypertension, and to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a community-based intervention programme in providing suggestion for nursing intervention. Method: A quasi-experimental study design was adopted.This research includes three stages. The first stage is about basic investigation and analysis, in which the result was used to plan community-based intervention.A sample of subjects aged 17 to 70, were randomized selected from two communities in Urumqi. The second stage is about community intervention trial,which lasted for 6 months.It included a primary prevention of hypertension and health education intervention. At last stage, we evaluate effectiveness of the intervention by the change of KAP and blood pressure on hypertension pre-interven-tion and post- intervention. Results: l)The main findings of the baseline assessment demonstrated that community people is unfamilar to hypertension. The rate of awareness in hypertension is 61.0%; the rate of attitude in hypertension is 15.9%; the rate of practice in hypertension is 32.4%. 2)The results showed that the intervention is effective. It demonstrated that the intervention community have significantly improved in the KAP than the control community. After health education, there was showed statistical significant between the control and experimental community in knowledge, attitude and behaviours. The level of knowledge (K) was improved from 61.0% to 74.7%, attitude (A) increased from 15.9% to 31.6%, and practices (P) increased from 32.4% to 50.1% in the intervention...
