In this research, we studied and discussed the pathogenesis and curative effect of aural vertigo by comparing the clinical results of Jin' s 3-Needle group with them of control group. Jin' s 3-Needle group used points of YunTong Zhen (the points to treat dizziness and headache) and ErSan Zhen (the three points around ear) along with other points chosen based upon different symptoms and signs, while control group chose three routine points, which were BaiHui(Du 20), FengChi(GB 20) and NeiGuan(PC 6). The YunTong Zhen and ErSan Zhen are both from Jin' s 3-Needle Technique. YunTong Zhen uses the "Four Spirit Points" (the points are located to the right and left of BaiHui as well as anterior and posterior to BaiHui, the distance between the four points and BaiHui, respectively, is 1.5 cun), TaiYang(extra) and YinTang(extra). ErSan Zhen uses the three points of TingGong(SI 19), TingHui (GB 2) and WanGu(GB 12). For the first time, we used a self-made questionnaire of "Evaluation of Symptoms and Abilities for Aural Vertigo Patients" to objectively assess a patient' s life quality and curative effect in patients by applying Jin' s 3-Needle Technique. We also applied Transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD) on patient' s cerebral arteries to observe the velocity change of bloodstream before and after the treatment, as well as to assess the curative effect by using Jin' s 3-Needle Technique from a point of view of western medicine. The followings are the three conclusions of our research:1. 15 cases of aural vertigo patients were treated by applying YunTong Zhen and ErSan Zhen along with other points chosen based upon symptoms and signs, as a result, 6 healed, 8 affected and 1 failed, the total effective percentage was 93. 33, which was apparently superior to the control group (66. 67).2. After we had the patients filled out the questionnaire of "Evaluation of Symptoms and Abilities for Aural Vertigo Patients" , we observed that after two courses of treatments, patients of Jin' s 3-Needle group had a great improvement, which was apparently superior to them of control group, on the aspects of vertigo intensity, self-care abilities, working abilities as well as psychological and social adaptabilities. Nevertheless, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of vertigo frequency and duration time.3. Before the treatment, we applied TCD ultrasound on both vertebral and basilar arteries (VA and BA for short) of 30 cases of aural vertigo patients, and we observed that both the peak systolic velocity (Vp) and median velocity (Vm) of VA and BA were below average. Both Vp and Vm could achieve or close to an average level after the treatment. Comparison between the two groups after treatment showed significant difference in Vp and Vm of VA as well as them of BA. This indicated that Jin' s 3-Needle Technique could stop the symptom of vertigo by improving blood supply in patient' s VA and BA, accelerating the velocity of bloodstream and eliminating endolymphatic hydrops in the inner ears. TCD ultrasound is harmless and plays an objective role in assessing the curative effect in patients with aural vertigo.
