Objective: Ultrasonic subgingival scaling is a routine method in the periodontal initial therapy. This study was aimed to use the solutions of indomethacin or metronidazole instead of the distilled or filtered water, which was usually combined with ultrasonic scaling, in order to prolong the time of local applications and increase the area or dispersion of the drugs. At the same time, the clinical indices was evaluated and the levels of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor (TNF) in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) was measured before and after irrigations with indomethacin or metronidazole solutions to evaluate the clinic curative effects of these drugs in the chronic periodontol diseases in human trials. And try to find out more effective approach of delivering medicine to improve the effects of the initial therapy in periodontal diseases.Method: 8 patients with moderate to advanced chronic periodontal disease and without system disease and the allergic history of non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs(5 males and 3 females) entered into study.
