Objective: This study was designed to investigate the protective effect of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) on the optic nerve fibre and visual function by establishing chronic ocular hypertension model. This study also investigated whether the signal transducer and activator of transcription3 (Stat3) pathway was one of the signal transduce pathways of CNTF and studied whether the activation of cyclin D1 took part in the Stat3 pathway, which provides theory basis for the study in clinic in the future.Methods:1 Animal and groups: Fifty Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into five groups:①Normal control group(six eyes);②Aterior chamber flattened group(six eyes);③Non- treatment group:It was divided into 1d, 2d, 4d, 8d, 14d, 28d groups according to the different time after the chronic ocular hypertension, each group had six eyes ;④TreatmentⅠgroup: CNTF(2μl/2μg) was intravitreal injected at the first day of ocular hypertension according to the different time after the chronic ocular hypertension, each group had six eyes ;⑤TreatmentⅡgroup(treatment control group): 0.9%...
